Skincare Tips for the Harmattan Season

Holidays and Harmattan!

These are the words synonymous with this period.  We all love the holidays ( gifts, parties with family and loved ones, winding down, etc.) but no one likes the havoc the season wrecks on the skin. This can be a challenge for some people. The cold and dry weather is not an easy one because it leaves the skin dry, itchy, and irritated. It can even cause severe dry skin, eczema, and psoriasis. This is a major reason to take great care of your skin.

Here are some skin-care tips for you to enjoy super healthy skin during the harmattan season.

STAY HYDRATED; your skin will become drier and more sensitive during this period. Take lots of water, try green tea which has an anti-oxidant effect and eat right. Your body needs to stay hydrated to function well.

MOISTURIZE FREQUENTLY; did you know the best time to moisturize is immediately after a shower when the body is still damp? It’s best to use the body butter and/or body oil. Keep your skin from drying out this season. Moisturize frequently especially your hands.

APPLY A SUNSCREEN; before you step outside, apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen to prevent your skin from premature aging and keep a youthful and radiant complexion.

USE LUKEWARM WATER; during this season we are often tempted to take hot water showers. But to avoid dry and cracked skin, please use lukewarm water. Hot water strips your skin of its natural oil.

AVOID ALCOHOL-BASED PRODUCTS; products that contain alcohol should be avoided as much as possible as they make your skin dry during the season.

EXFOLIATE ONCE A WEEK; exfoliating the skin helps get rid of the dead cells. However, it is recommended that you limit the use to once a week during this season.

DON’T FORGET YOUR LIPS; No one likes chapped lips and the pain that comes with those tiny cuts. To avoid that, use your lip scrub and lip balm to moisturize your lips.

So there you have it. Skincare tips for this harmattan season. Ensure to follow the tips religiously if you haven’t been doing so and you should get through this season easily.
